Marco Island Charter Middle School Scored Best in Collier County in FCAT’s

Marco Island Charter Middle School

Marco Island Charter Middle School

Earlier this week, I attended an informal meeting with the Principal of Marco Island Charter Middle School, George Abounader, and the President of the Board of Directors, Jim Reinders.  They shared with the parents in attendance their pride in the fact that MICMS is ranked 21st out of 575 Florida middle schools based on the state mandated Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) results for 2009!  MICMS earned the highest score in Collier County among all of the middle schools.  Plus, this Collier County school is currently ranked #1 out of 55 Florida counties thanks to all of the hard work from the students, teachers, faculty, staff, parents and all who support MICMS.  Congratulations!

“The FCAT is part of Florida’s overall plan to increase student achievement by implementing higher standards.  The FCAT is administered to students in Grades 3-11, consists of criterion-referenced tests (CRT) in mathematics, reading, science and writing, which measure student progress toward meeting the Sunshine State Standards (SSS) benchmarks” per the Florida Department of Education website, fcat.fldoe.org.
